Welcome to the Hello Puyallup Journey: Elder Lyle Quasim!

❤️ Some Communities Have Histories. Puyallup Has Lyle Quasim ❤️

For 46 years, he has witnessed our struggles, celebrated our growth, built bridges across differences, and reminded us that communities flourish when neighbors choose to care.

For 46 years, Lyle Quasim has called Puyallup home. He has watched this community grow and change. He has faced its challenges, opened doors, built bridges, and devoted his life to helping people thrive.

His accomplishments are extraordinary: state leader, cabinet secretary, college president, community organizer, and tireless volunteer. Even in retirement, he continues to invest countless hours serving others and strengthening the communities he loves.

Yet the most powerful part of Lyle’s story is not what he accomplished.

It is that he stayed.

He stayed to serve.
He stayed to lead.
He stayed to care.

And after all these years, he is still showing up.

In a world where people often move on, Lyle chose to stay rooted. Year after year. Decade after decade. He invested not only in organizations and institutions, but in people. In neighbors. In relationships. In the possibility that a community can become something better when people choose to care about one another.

Lyle reminds us that the true wealth of a community is not measured in buildings, budgets, or development projects. It is found in people who plant themselves deeply, give generously, and believe that the future is something we create together

He teaches us that stronger communities are not built through rhetoric alone. They are built through courage. Persistence. Honest conversation. And the daily practice of showing up for one another.

This is why Hello Puyallup exists: to reveal the extraordinary human sparks already living among us.

Because when we truly see one another, listen to one another, and care enough to cross the distance between us, trust grows. Belonging deepens. Partnerships form. And new possibilities emerge.

Today, we celebrate Lyle Quasim. Not simply for his accomplishments, but for his example.

His life asks each of us a powerful question:

Will we simply live in this community, or will we help love it into everything it can become?
